Alisa S. Preston, P.Eng.
I have spent almost my entire life on the West Coast of Canada. My sense of adventure was instilled at an early age through my family, and I’ve explored the extensive British Columbia coastline from above and below the surface. I've also had the privilege of being a guest in many places around the globe, and I acknowledge my gratitude and respect for my homes on the unceded territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations and the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations in Canada, and the S·dukʷalbixʷ (Snoqualmie), sduhubš (Snohomish), and the Nixyáawii (the place of many springs) speaking people of the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla Nations in the USA.
My career has been a blend of engineering, marine technology, commercial and scientific diving, emergency response and recovery, conservation and sustainability, business development, and executive leadership in Canada and abroad. My greatest highlight was working with Dr. Sylvia Earle to have the International Union for Conservation of Nature approve Saanich Inlet and the Southern Gulf Islands as a Mission Blue Hope Spot. This gained international attention for our local underwater ecosystem, which was featured for World Oceans Day in 2018 with Sylvia and the Mission Blue team at Time Square in New York City.
I lead a number of international initiatives working to establish and uphold the UN Sustainable Development Goals through Outcaste Expeditions and Monoceros Strategies Inc. As these pursuits continue to make a greater difference in the world, the purpose of this website is to reflect on my journey as I learn, grow and share within an amazing community of people who support me. This began with my mother, who was an amazing mentor. As my husband, Brandon, and our creature family (two cats - Briggs and Fin and two African Grey parrots - Abalone and Echo) continue our adventures, I look forward to this site being a collection of entertaining observations and anecdotes featuring some of my heroes and sponsors.
"It makes such a DIFFERENCE", said Pooh, "to have someone who BELIEVES in you". ~A.A. Milne
